This past weekend, several of our Five Star and other area players competed at the 2022 Toledo Pickleball Glass City Invitational; a sanctioned USAPA event. Several of the teams came away with Gold Medal Honors.

Winning Gold in the Men’s 4.0 Doubles Division were North Ridge instructors, Rich Abston and Tariq Ismail. The pair rallied to fight off tough opponents throughout their eight-man bracket, defeating their final rivals 11-5 and 11-9 after a first-match, 5-11 loss.

Special mention goes to Trudi Saunders and partner, Kathy Grable. Trudi and partner finished with Gold Medal honors by earning first-place in the Women’s Doubles, 60+ Division (combined 3.0/3.5/4.0). The pair went undefeated in their eight-player bracket. Not to be outdone, husband Phil Saunders matched his wife’s Gold with a medal of his own. Phil competed in the Men’s Doubles, 60+ 3.0/3.5 Division with partner, Gene Rogers. The team lost only one match during the competition, coming back to win 11-7. 11-5 in the final round.

Applause also goes out to local player Jason McNulty and partner, Zach Apperson, for winning the Gold in Men’s Doubles, 5.0/4.5 Division. Jason has been on a roll lately, taking top honors everywhere he has competed.
